02The consumer unit

Three consumer units — depending on what you'll run off yours.

An old consumer unit from the 90s wasn't built for air conditioning, a water heater, a dishwasher and an EV charger all at once. We replace it in half a day — with an RCD, room for the future and a circuit chart that stays on the door. Which package you need depends on a photo of your board and what you're planning.

Three things we can see in the photo that change the price

1
The recess

The old recess was built for 6–8 fuses; the new consumer unit is 24 modules. By default we fit a surface-mounted unit next to or over the recess — no chasing, no dust, and the old recess is closed off with a cover. Flush-mounted, with the recess enlarged: in brick €42, in concrete after a site visit.

2
The cable from the meter

If it's aluminium, undersized or burnt at the ends, a new consumer unit won't fix that. We replace it with copper sized to your contracted supply — after a site visit · guide price €100, based on a photo of the meter. Work on the meter itself is done by the grid operator.

3
Two-wire installation

If the wiring stays two-wire: a 30 mA RCD protects people even without an earth; we test the insulation first — a circuit that ‘leaks’ goes on its own RCD; an earth conductor to metal and water — we split the PEN in the board and run new three-core circuits to the water heater, washing machine and bathroom.

‘Consumer unit + RCD + wet-room circuits’ package: the standard board + 2 dedicated circuits; a third circuit goes into the quote.

When it needs replacing:
  • trips when two appliances run at once
  • there's no RCD
  • ceramic fuses or unmarked breakers
  • the board is warm to the touch or smells of plastic
  • you're adding air con, an EV charger or solar panels

PV/EV ready is the consumer unit for an EV charger and solar panels — we install those too, with one board and one warranty.

During the swap the power is off for about 2 hours — we tell you when in advance, so you can plan around the fridge and computer.

03Points

A new installation is priced per point. Here's how many you'll need.

A point is anywhere the wiring comes out of the wall: a socket, a switch, a light outlet. High-power appliances get dedicated circuits from the consumer unit. Pick your rooms and you'll see the range for the standard case described below the card. To be honest: these are typical counts, the site visit pins them down, and the final price is in the quote.

For comparison: a one-bedroom flat usually has 36–50 points and 4–6 appliances on their own circuit; a two-bedroom flat 43–61 points. The range is wide because concrete, cable run lengths and the number of boxes only become clear at the site visit. Devices (switches, sockets, lights) are extra — you choose them from the catalogue.

The standard case we price on: a flat; brick or aerated concrete walls; cable in flexible conduit under the screed or chased into the brick, up to 3 m from the junction box; back box in brick; standard switches and sockets; up to 3 m ceiling height; testing, test report and passport at the end.
Extra, itemised in the quote: concrete (chasing at €18 per metre); plasterboard; cable runs over 3 m; devices and light fittings as products; removing the old wiring; supply cable from the meter; earthing; sub-boards; screed, skimming and painting.

4Testing and passporttest report, chart, every box with its position and a photo of it open

Why the boxes matter. Junction boxes are where the cables meet. Years later, that’s the first place anyone looks for a fault — and they’re under the plaster. In the passport, every box has its position (wall, distance from the corner, height), a photo of it open and a note of what’s connected inside.

04What you get

Besides the work — a folder that proves it was done properly.

Most tradesmen do the job and leave. Afterwards nobody knows where the cable runs, which box feeds the kitchen or what breaker was fitted. We leave you four documents. They’re included in the price.

05How it goes

From photo to test report.

Five steps. For a consumer unit, a dedicated circuit or points, we don’t come out for a site visit — the price comes from the photo. For new wiring, a site visit is required and is deducted from the quote.

New wiring — one-bedroom flat 5–8 working days, two-bedroom 7–10, a house depending on the design; photos before the walls are closed up. If opening up reveals something that wasn’t visible in the photo, we stop and give you the figure before carrying on. When chasing, we use a dust extractor and take the rubble away.

  5. at the end5

    Testing, report, passport

We test, show you the figures, put the sticker on and sign off the handover. You pay for the labour after sign-off. The passport — on paper and in your profile.

    together · 20 minutes
  1. €30 per hour for labour; site visit €15, deducted if you go ahead with the work. Materials are extra. For standard jobs we don't charge by the hour but per item — point, circuit, consumer unit — so you know the figure before we arrive.

  2. €372–€613 for a standard consumer unit with an RCD, including installation, test report and circuit diagram. An extended board with two RCDs and surge protection (SPD) — €613–€715. A board with space for an inverter and an EV charger — after a site visit · guide price €883. Quote the same day from a photo of your consumer unit.

  3. It's priced per point — €40–€50 in a new build, €39–€83 in a renovation — plus dedicated circuits for appliances. It depends on the number of points, the walls (brick or concrete) and whether you'll have an EV charger, solar panels or a smart home. The room-by-room estimate gives you a range in a minute; the final price comes after a site visit.

  4. Switch off the appliance you turned on last and send us a photo of your consumer unit. Often the cause is an overloaded circuit or an old circuit breaker; sometimes it's damaged insulation, which shows up on testing. If there's smoke or flames — 112 first, then us.

  5. Yes. It's mandatory in new installations and the cheapest insurance against electric shock in the bathroom and kitchen. It also works on old two-wire wiring with no earth — it measures the difference between the current in live and neutral. If your consumer unit doesn't have one, we fit it — 30 mA, type A; for an EV charger — type B. Before that we test the insulation: if the wiring is ‘leaking’, the RCDs go on separate circuits.

  6. In a renovation: chasing a channel in brick or aerated concrete up to 3 m, flexible conduit and cable, back box, fitting the device, connecting it in the box and testing — €39–€83. In a new build the cable runs in the screed with no chasing — €40–€50. It doesn't include the device itself (you choose it from the catalogue), concrete (chasing €18 per metre), runs over 3 m, screed or plastering. High-power appliances — hob, oven, water heater, air conditioner — get a dedicated circuit at €93–€205.

  7. A test report (insulation, earthing, RCD, loop impedance), a single-line diagram on the consumer unit door, a QR sticker and the installation passport. Contract and invoice — always. It's all included in the price.

  8. Yes, if they come with a declaration of conformity. Our warranty covers the installation; the manufacturer is responsible for the materials.

  9. Yes — Dobrich, Balchik, Kavarna, Shumen, Byala, Obzor and the villages in between. The travel fee depends on the zone and is in the quote — no surprises.

  10. To the customer they're the same: the person who does your electrical installation. The difference is in the paperwork: the test report under Ordinance RD-02-20-1 — look for that, not the job title.

  11. The payment method and deadlines are in the contract we sign before work starts. Always an invoice, no exceptions.

  12. Not unless you've said yes. If opening up reveals something that wasn't visible in the photo — aluminium cable, a burnt-out box, concrete instead of brick — we stop, take photos and give you the figure before we carry on. No conditional charges and no surprises on the invoice.

  13. We work during business hours by appointment. If your power's gone off, message us with a photo of the consumer unit — we'll tell you what we see and when we can come. We don't promise ‘within the hour’, because we won't lie to you; if there's smoke or flames — 112.
